Swedish Meatballs
5th March, 2017

Many people will have tried these meatballs before from a global build it yourself furniture company

This version though knocks those out of the park

Ingredients

  • 1 Onion, grated
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 3 slices white bread, breadcrumbs
  • 1 tbsp dill, finely chopped
  • 400g pork mince
  • 50g butter
  • Sunflower oil
  • 2 tbsp plain flour
  • 400mls beef stock

    Method

Add the butter and a small glug of oil to a frying pan until melted so you can fry off the onions until tender. Let the onions cool

Make the bread crumbs and add into a mixing bowl with the pork mince, fried onions (now cooled), beaten egg, dill and bring together and then using your hands make into individual meatballs, about 5cm across. Not too big.

Using the same pan as the onions, put the remainder of the butter in the pan and melt, and then add the meatballs into the pan in batches to brown off.

When browned, remove the meatballs from the pan and place on a plate to keep warm

Sprinkle the flour over the pan and stir well to make a roux/paste.

Gradually add in the beef stock to make a nice thick sauce and then pop the browned meatballs back into the pan

Finish cooking the meatballs in the pan and take off the heat

You can serve immediately or chill down and reheat thoroughly later
