Mulled Cider
15th October, 2017

Nothing beats standing outside on a cold autumnal/winter evening and staying warm with a Mulled Cider in hand.

You can use a sweet cider if you wish

Ingredients

  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 1 orange, juiced
  • 1 lemon, sliced
  • 3 Tbsp Light Brown Sugar
  • 1 litre dry cider
  • 50mls dark rum
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 star anise
  • 8 whole cloves
  • 1 vanilla pod. Cut in half lengthwise

    Method

In a large pan that can take a lid, add all the ingredients apart from the sliced lemon and orange.

Slowly bring the mix to a simmer with the lid on and once it’s reached a simmer; take off the heat and add the sliced fruit and let this steep for another 5 minutes before serving

Remember it’s a warming drink and shouldn’t be served at boiling point.

To make another batch you can re-use the cloves, vanilla pod, star anise and cinnamon. Just make up more fruit.

For a non-alcoholic version all you have to do is swap out the cider for an apple juice and miss out the rum
